Named after the founders, Richard and Helen Rice, the Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals is located about 20 minutes west of downtown Portland, Oregon in Hillsboro.
Perhaps best known as the home of the "Alma Rose" Rhodochrosite from the Sweet Home Mine in Alma, Colorado, the Rice Museum contains a working collection of over 20,000 geological specimens and has something for everyone.
Nestled among beautiful trees, ferns, lawns and forested areas, the Rice Museum has become nationally recognized as the finest rock and mineral museum in the Pacific Northwest and one of the best in the nation. Displays include the largest opal-filled thunder egg, a gold specimen bigger than your hand, dinosaur eggs and fossils, meteorites, minerals from the Pacific Northwest, petrified wood, lapidary works and thousands of other attractions.
